Introducing the Michigan Girls League of Excellence

What Is the League of Excellence?

The League of Excellence is designed to keep players skating, competing, and improving throughout the off-season. This league emphasizes high-tempo games, competitive balance, and player development, offering a more engaging alternative to limited weekly practices.

This league is ideal for players who want to work hard, improve their game, and compete at a higher level — true to the name League of Excellence.

League of Excellence - $500 per player

Who Can Participate?

  • Current MGHSHL players
  • Players planning to play in the MGHSHL next season
  • Incoming freshmen 
  • Tier 2/3 Players

Evaluation Skate

All players will be placed on teams following a league-run evaluation skate:

📍 Location: St. Clair Shores Civic Arena
 📅 Date: Sunday, April 19
 🕑 Time: 2:00–4:00 PM

Team Formation 

  • Players will be placed on teams based on evaluation results
  • Teams will be balanced competitively
  • Teams will be identified by Country (World Cup Games Edition!)
  • Teams rotate weekly, playing different opponents within the League of Excellence each week
  • No-Cut League

Game Schedule

  • 🗓 Season runs June 9 through the October 11th
  • 📍 All games held at St. Clair Shores Civic Arena
  • 🏒 Each player plays one game per week


June 9 – Labor Day (No games week of July 4th, nor 9/8)
  • 📅 Tuesday nights
  • Game 1: 7:30 PM
  • Game 2: 8:30 PM
  • Zamboni between games only

Post–Labor Day Schedule (September 13 –October 11)
  • 📅 Sundays
  • Game 1: 7:30 PM
  • Game 2: 8:30 PM
  • Zamboni between games only

Playoffs

  • The season concludes with a playoff tournament

All-Star Team 

⭐ The MGHSHL All-Star Team will also be selected at the April 19 evaluation skate
⭐ Selected All-Star players will be distributed across League of Excellence teams to maintain competitive balance

⭐If you are selected to play on the All-Star Team, there will be a separate cost associated with it. Here are the details: 

Tournament

Team Structure
  • A rostered All-Star team selected by league-appointed evaluators and coaches
  • Coaching staff assigned by the league
  • Team Roster Size: up to 22 players total
    • Up to 12 Forwards
    • Up to 8 Defense
    • Up to 2 Goalies
Player Selection & Eligibility
  • All-Star players will be selected based on:
    • Performance at the league-hosted Evaluation Skate by MGHSHL Coaches 
    • Statistical performance during the prior MGHSHL season
  • Eligibility Requirement:
    • Only players who participated in the MGHSHL during the immediately preceding season are eligible to be selected and rostered as All-Star players
  • Evaluation Skate Details:
    • Date: Sunday, April 19th
    • Time: 2:00- 4:00p 
    • Location: St. Clair Shores Civic Arena
